Who are we?
We are a group of students at St Mary’s dedicated to supporting and promoting the welfare of our fellow students.
The WAM team is made up of welfare officers who are elected through the JCR and undergo welfare training so that we can listen to any concerns you may have and offer relevant signposting to support.
We make sure that our team are visible and approachable in college, whether that’s at events, our sessions, or as friendly faces around, so that you can chat to us about anything and everything!
What do we do?
- We educate ourselves on a wide variety of welfare issues so we can spread awareness through events and campaigns.
- Organise regular welfare sessions that offer you a space to feel safe and calm
- Welfare Wednesday activities take place every Wednesday including crafts, walks, yoga, meditation, collabs with sports & societies…and much more
- Self-care Sundays take place every Sunday evening. This is an extra chill session with hot drinks, biscuits and cosy activities
- Fortnightly academic peer-support sessions to share and try study methods
- We offer signposting to places you can access support both within college and the university, as well as externally.
- We work with other JCR officers, sports & societies, and members of staff to create a supportive environment in college and ensure your wellbeing is always a priority
- Organise free sexual health supplies and other wellbeing supplies
- Overall we aim to be friendly faces around college that others know they can approach and ask for support

How you can join us
- You can join our general committee (link to facebook group)
- The committee will help put together campaigns, support each other – but we will also be having plenty of wholesome get-togethers
- Come along to any of our events and welfare sessions that happen several times a week … or even get involved with the organising and running side of things
- Be kind, supportive and aware of others around you in college. All this contributes to the WAM spirit and the amazing friendly environment here in St Mary’s
