Boat Club
Boat Club (SMCBC)
SMCBC is a welcoming club that is open to anyone, whether you have rowed previously or not. The vast majority of Mary’s rowers started rowing at Durham and compete in national races such as Durham Regatta, Hexham, York, Rutherford, as well as local races held by Durham College Rowing. The club is also looking to compete at WeHoRR and HoRR in London this year. SMCBC is one of the oldest sports clubs in Mary’s, established in 1926.
The club primarily focuses on sweep rowing, however we do also have a double for sculling. SMCBC is based at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, where we share a boat house with DARC, Trevelyan College and St John’s College. Weather depending, we row several times a week, alongside erg sessions.
So how do you get involved? You can sign up during fresher’s week and after completing a swim test (not as scary as it sounds!), our Novice Captains will sort you into crews and you’ll soon be out on the water. If you have any experience in coxing or would like to cox rather than row, let one of the rowers know at the freshers fair – we’d love to have you
